Episode 10| S2: Social work with African American women

Dr. Quenette Walton is an assistant professor at the University of Houston in the Graduate College of Social Work. The aims of her research program are to build knowledge and develop theory that informs policies, practices, and culturally relevant and evidence-based interventions in order to reduce depression and increase wellness and well-being among middle-class Black women. She realizes that depression experiences and wellness and well-being do not occur in isolation. For that reason, Dr. Walton also focuses on social class as a social determinant of health and mental health disparities. Dr. Walton is also a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with over 15 years of clinical practice experience. She received her PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Jane Addams College of Social Work. She holds a master's in social work degree from the University of Chicago, Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan.
