A conversation with Idil Muhumed

Idil Muhumed is a doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki in the Doctoral Program in Population Health. Her research focuses on immigrant mothers, specifically exploring their utilization of maternal and child health services and breastfeeding practices. Driven by a passion for social equity, Idil dreams of improving healthcare access for vulnerable populations. Outside of her academic work, Idil is a social media influencer, creating educational and motivational content to inspire and empower others. She is dedicated to advocating for equal opportunities and supporting marginalized communities in improving their health and well-being.

In this discussion, she reflects on her early career in the Finnish health sector and shares what motivated her to pursue a master's degree in public health in the UK, followed by a PhD at the University of Helsinki. As a first-generation Somali-Finnish woman, she provides insights into her research findings and how these interventions could enhance maternal health outcomes for immigrant women.
